Victims' advocates are usually employed by state agencies or courts. After working with an abuse victim, they're required to keep their conversations confidential. A large majority of victims' advocates are paid a salary by a government agency or non-profit organization. During 2010, victims' advocates averaged about $45,000 annually, but their earnings are affected by specialty and organization.
