New Jersey Psychology Schools and Programs

While New Jersey is one of the smallest states in the country based on size, there are more people per square mile living in New Jersey than just about any other state in the nation. And with nearly 9 out of 10 people living in urban areas, New Jersey is also one of the most densely populated, urbanized states in the nation as well. With so many people living so closely together there seems to be a never ending supply of business for psychologists. Currently, the demand for psychologists in New Jersey is high, and so is the pay.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, clinical, counseling, and school psychologists in New Jersey, on average, earn over $90,000 a year, more than than similarly qualified psychologists practicing in other states. Best of all, it appears that the upward trend in compensation isn't going to change any time soon.

To practice psychology in New Jersey you'll need to earn an undergraduate (bachelor's) and graduate (Ph.D. or Psy.D) degree in psychology from an accredited program. Currently there are 24 colleges and universities offering accredited psychology degree programs in New Jersey. Once you've earned your degrees you'll also need to obtain a license. To learn more about state licensing requirements contact the New Jersey State Board of Psychology Examiners.
