While earning an accredited graduate degree is an essential element of becoming a psychologist, it alone is not sufficient. In addition to earning a degree, it is essential that aspiring psychologists receive hands on experience. This experience, which is gained through a psychology internship, will help you to understand and learn how how to deal with scenarios that are encountered as a practicing psychologist.
Internships in clinical, counseling, organizational, experimental and research psychology also provide exposure to experts within the field of psychology as well as up-close interaction with patients. There is no better experience than working and learning alongside a practicing psychologist.
The majority of internships are offered in the fields of clinical and organizational psychology, and these are areas where there is growing demand for licensed psychologists.
Even though most internships do not pay much, they are highly competitive. The primary prerequisite to obtaining a psychology internship is good grades.
