It encompasses study, research and applied work in several psychology domains, including, supervision and training, couseling process and outcome, prevention and health, and career development and counseling. However, there are several cohesive themes that unify counseling psychologists. These include person-environment interactions, assets and strengths, educational and career development, and a focus on intact personalities. The majority of practicing counseling psychologists provide therapeutic treatments to clients experiencing a broad array of emotional, mental or behavioral symptoms or disorders. Many counseling psychologists provide psychotherapy treatments and services, but there are several other career paths available within this specialty.
