Connecticut Psychology Schools, Colleges & Universities

Did you know that several of Connecitcut's major cities are on CNNMoney's list of best placed to live? Connecitcut really is a wonderful place to live. The state is full of scenic beauty, including mountains, seashores, lush treed landscapes and quiet countrysides. And for those of you city goers out there, you'll be pleased to know that Connecticut has several large, modern, cosmopolitan centers with lots to see and experience.

Connecticut is also a great place to launch a career if you're an aspiring psychologist. Even thought the state is relatively small (only 3.5 million residence) when compared to places like California, it is home to some of the top psychologists in the country. Most job opportunities for psychologists will be found in and around Bridgeport, the states largest metropolitan area. And according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, the median wage for psychologists working in Connecticut is right around $75,000 a year.

In addition, there are over 20 colleges and universities offering some of the best psychology programs in the country. (This is just as many psychology programs as you'll find in Colorado, which has nearly twice the population of Connecticut.) In fact, the University of Connecticut offers one of the best Ph.D. programs in nation for industrial-organizational (IO) psychologists and clinical psychologists.

To practice psychology in Connecticut you'll need to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology followed by a doctorate degree in psychology. Once you've completed your educational requirements you'll need to pass a state exam required for licensure.
