Alabama Psychology Schools, Colleges & Universities

Alabama is a great place to live and it's a great place to work. With nearly 5 million residents, a growing economy and a plethora of healthcare, educational and governmental organizations, there is usually strong demand for qualified psychologists. Most job opportunities for psychologists can be found in the major population areas including Birmingham, Montgomery, Huntsville and Mobile. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a psychologist in Alabama can expect to earn between about $70,000 and $95,000 per year.

To practice as a psychologist in Alabama, you must have a doctoral degree in psychology. However, before you can your doctoral degree you must first earn your bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology (although, there are a few doctoral psychology programs that will accept applicants with a bachelor's degree from an accredited program). Once you've completed your educational requirement, you'll then need to pass a state examination sponsored by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology in order to become a licensed practicing psychologist.

There are currently over 20 colleges or universities in Alabama that provide accredited undergraduate and graduate level psychology programs in psychology. Most of these institutions also provide financial aid programs that will help you on your way to earning your necessary degrees.
